This disorder with neurological and dermatological, as well as
psychiatric manifestations was more common before the manufacture of "bromide"
patent medications such as Miles Nervine and Bromo Seltzer was discontinued. The
disorder results from excessive, usually chronic, consumption of bromide
substances. Psychiatric symptoms can include
confusion, psychosis, cognitive impairment, slowing
of movement, affective lability and depressed
mood. Bromism could be classified as Intoxication
or other Substance Induced Disorder. |
