Jungian psychoanalysis: collective unconscious


The deepest layer of the unconscious, which is ordinarily inaccessible to awareness. Its nature is suprapersonal, universal and non-individual. Its manifestations are experienced as alien to the ego, numinous or divine. The contents of the collective unconscious are the archetypes and their specific symbolic representations, i.e., archetypal images.*
