dream

-the 'royal road' to self knowledge, for Perls as for Freud. Taking Rank's idea, Perls considered every person or element in the dream as a projection of the dreamer and often suggested embodying them in turn. Other writers suggest thinking of the dream as retroflection (I. From) or as an unfinished Gestalt (Ginger). A combination of these various approaches often proves worthwhile.
