SAMHSA Fail

10/22/2020

A few weeks ago SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) sent me an email invitation to complete a survey. The agency apparently chose me based on the mistaken impression that I still hold the "waiver" for treating opioid addiction with buprenorphine (medication-assisted treatment).

In fact, I cancelled my DEA number years ago. To the best of my knowledge only DEA registrants can obtain the buprenorphine waiver.

Federal agencies should have the capacity to maintain accurate data about medical providers. If they fail to keep such basic and vital data, how can we rely on them to support our national efforts to treat addiction?
