Bacillophobic patient Bob covers his hand with a handkerchief when he touches the door knob (0:02), a revolving door 0:05), an elevator button (0:06), a telephone (0:18), a car door handle (0:38)

Psychiatrist Leo in his office talks to a colleague about referral of Bob for continuing treatment: "He's not psychotic is he?" We see a bust of Freud on a pedestal in the background. (0:03)

During Bob's first visit, Leo shows Bob a picture of "my son Sigmund."
Bob: "I worry about diseases so I have trouble touching things."
"I get dizzy spells, nausea, cold sweats, hot sweats, fever blisters, difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, blurred vision, involuntary trembling, dead hands, numb lips, fingernail sensitivity, pelvic discomfort." Somatization Disorder?
"What if my heart stops beating?... If my bladder explodes? Have you ever heard of Tourette's syndrome?"
"If I fake it then I don't have it." Counterphobic or Factitious Disorder?
Leo: "So what you're saying is that even though you are an almost paralyzed multi-phobic personality that is in a constant state of panic..."
"The best psychiatrist in the world is the one right inside of you." (0:07)

Leo dictates: "Multi-phobic personality characterized by acute separation anxiety..." (0:14)

Bob tells answering service worker Betty, "Unfortunately Bob committed suicide..."
Betty: "Bob called here trying to reach a psychiatrist." (0:19)

Leo tells his wife Fay, "That patient... committed suicide." (0:21)

Bob breathes into a bag to stop hyperventilating. (0:23)

Leo asks Sigmund, "What is it with you and this death fixation?"
Sigmund: "Maybe I'm in mourning for my lost childhood." (0:28)

Bob tells Sigmund, "Your father is the most incredible psychiatrist." (0:34)

Bob asks Leo's daughter Anna, "So what's it like being the daughter of a brilliant analyst... ?" (0:38)

Leo tells Fay, "He faked suicide."
Fay: "Isn't that a cry for help?"
"Maybe a little neurotic?" (0:57)

Bob tells Sigmund, "Tourette's syndrome."
Sigmund: "What's Tourette's syndrome?"
Sigmund tells Leo, "Tourette's, Dad. Tourette's."
Bob asks Leo, "Would you like something for sleep?"
Leo: "I don't need any Valium."
"I have Valium if you need it."
"Halcion, Seconal?" (0:59)

Leo places his bust of Freud on the mantle. (1:03)

TV reporter Marie introduces Leo as the "author of the newest sensation in therapy." (1:06)

Leo tells Bob, "You've turned a perfectly peaceful house into an insane asylum."

Bob: "Is this some radical new therapy?" (1:11)

Leo: "Intensive psychotherapy."
Bob: "Some free association from my infancy."
Sign: "Psychiatric Hospital"
Psychiatrist Tomsky tells Leo, "I can only hold him for 24 hours..."
Leo (to himself): "Didn't realize you were in a straitjacket." (1:13)

Bob entertains the hospital staff: "Roses are red. Violets are blue. I'm a schizophrenic, and so am I."
"A psychiatrist..."
"You know you're obsessed with sex."
Leo: "You have been duped by a textbook narcissist, a brilliant sociopath."
Tomsky: "It's perfectly natural for a patient to bond with his analyst." (1:16)

Bobby asks Leo, "What is this, isolation therapy?" (1:19)

Physician Phil tells Fay, "He's been under a lot of stress..."
"Sedative's probably taken effect."
" I'm leaving a prescription for Prozac."
Bob: "With these particular symptoms is Prozac the right choice?"
Leo's sister Lily: "You think Prozac is a mistake?"
Bob: "With this kind of manic episode I would think that Librium might be a more effective management tool." (1:22)

Bob tells Leo, "But if you shoot me then our therapy will be over." (1:28)

Leo imagines a conversation with Fay: "Well he did try to commit suicide once before." (1:30)

Leo's bust of Freud falls to the ground.
Appearing catatonic, Leo sits in his psychiatric hospital room holding an unfinished basket. (1:33)

Closing: "Bob went back to school and became a psychologist."
